Vogue magazine has always been viewed as thee ‘fashion bible,’ serving as a style guide for women and men across the nation, and beyond our borders. Yet, Anna Wintour’s recent decision to place reality star Kim Kardashian on its April cover, alongside her beau, Kanye West, has left many of  its following with mixed reactions, wondering if she truly deserves the cover.  She will be Vogue’s first reality star to don its cover. What does this mean for the future of fashion’s top publication?

Past features for the publication’s cover have included A-list stars such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Adele, and Naomi Campbell, who have all gained notable accolades in their respective fields. These aforementioned women are  more deserving in the eyes of those in opposition to the April cover. Sara Michelle Gellar, known for her lead role in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ threatened to cancel her subscription, due to the Kimye cover tweeting “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???— Sarah Michelle (@RealSMG) March 21, 2014. Supermodel Naomi Campbell joined a line of disapproval with a coy response, when asked her opinion on the Kimye , at The Morning Show:

Although, many were flustered by Vogue’s choice subject for its cover, some found reasons to respect Wintour’s choice. The Huffington Post Canada made two valid reasons why we should look forward to this talked about issue, stating:

1. For once, Vogue has put people of colour on the cover.

Vogue is known for usually featuring white women on its covers (with a few exceptions), so it’s great to see the mag feature not one, but two people who aren’t Caucasian.

2. It features a hashtag.

We’ve been getting kind of sick of Vogue’s boring cover text so it’s fun to see that they’ve moved into the 21st century with a Twitter reference.

Vogue has definitely given everyone something to talk about with its April feature. The real deciding factor for this issue will come to fruition when magazines hit the stands!
